Father’s Day 2011

It was the 21st of April when he suffered a moderate to severe stroke. A stroke that paralyzed his entire left side. It’s probably the hardest thing, watching your father struggle with the simplest everyday activities. Six days out of the week he undergoes intense therapy, spanning from physical, occupational and speech. This father’s day, we round up the family and spent it with my dad, other amazing families and the staff at The Stern Family Center for Extended Care. It’s not everyday you run into people who love what they do, these people take the cake. It’s reassuring knowing that my dad is good hands. There’s a slow and long road ahead of us. I think we can do it.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be too enthused with that hat either. Look at the daggers he’s shooting at me!

Pretty Food

Recently I’ve been required to try my hand at photographing food and I’m delighted that it turn out to be more of a success than a disaster. For the record: photographing food is not at all easy! You would think with an inanimate subject such as food, one would be able to complete the task of photographing it quickly. Wrong. I worked with a food stylist/preparer in order for everything to look perfect and natural. Fun thing about shooting food: Getting to indulge when you’re done!

I look forward to expanding my food photography portfolio. Honestly, food is high up on my list of favorite things in the whole world.

When Life Hands You A Snow Day…

You play board games and fill it with moments that memories are made of!

Boy, NYC has been receiving its fair share of winter storms. Exactly one month after the first one rocked the city, we got a good foot and a half on top of what fell last week. It was just enough for the MTA to suspend services and for Parsons to deem it a hazard to hold classes. Besides the snow giving me the perfect ending to the beginning of Back-to-School week, it offered me a little more QT with my favorite little person. We spent the day indoors playing endless rounds of board games, eating snacks, singing, dancing and watching movies. Days like this one in particular are the things I hope she remembers down the line.

Now that school is back in session for me plus the seemingly endless business that’s starting to pile up, times like these will be a lot harder to come by. I’m getting my fill of them while I can so let it snow!

Cheers to Four Years!

I look at her and it still baffles me. She’s mine. In all her awesome-ness. Almost everything she says amazes me. I know longer see the traces of the baby she once was and it almost hurts. Everyday that passes she becomes a little more independent, reciting her usual, “No Mommy, I can do it myself.” But I revel in the moments where she’s affectionate and wants nothing more than to curl into my side as I work. Nothing thrills me more than continuing our little traditions and starting brand new ones. Kailin Chicken turned 4 years old yesterday and as bad as I want to hold on to her and somehow stop her from growing, I’m too excited to see where she goes in life. She free spirited and outspoken and I wouldn’t change anything about her. She’s all mine!

She allowed me the opportunity to take a few photographs of her before she was completely spent.

MTH2010 – Maui Edition

Ever felt like all odds were stacked against you at one point or another? I know the feeling a little too well. In a few days, I’ve gained such a clearer perspective of my entire life. I’ve had the chance to attend the Making Things Happen Intensive and having met memorable people on the beaches of Maui has been more than I could’ve asked for. This year I’m thankful for it all, the good, bad and downright wrong. And I accept that they are all learning experience. I’m getting better at dodging the monkey wrenches that life is known to throw my way, and when I do get hit, I know that there is nothing else for me to do but get up and keep propelling forward. I’m truly blessed. Such a beautiful experience with such beautiful people. Amazing!

As promised, part 2 of this very beautiful Canadian wedding! If I had a choice, I would couples like them every single time. Nothing better than a couple who are easygoing and a joy to be around! Congratulations again, Anne-Marie and Carl and thanks for making me a part of something spectacular!

I need to make a vow to myself to get use to having a blog, but between school and work and a 3 year old, I’m finding my juggling act to be a lot more tricky.
